You’re probably thinking: “Wisdom” is straight-forward enough, but what in the world is an otaku?
For those of you fellow anime-nerds, thank you for knowing and loving a thing that I love! For those of us who aren’t that particular kind of nerd – otaku is a Japanese word that refers to someone who is an extreme fan of or nerd about something. (Yes, yes, this is a butchered over-simplification, but it’ll do for now.)
My fellow Naruto-heads and I can all be called anime otaku.
Real quick: I’m also a bit of a language otaku, and one of my favorite things about Japanese is that nouns are inherently both singular and plural.
And a Wisdom Otaku is an extreme fan of wisdom. We’re all out here just doing our best, trying to live the best way we know how, right? That effort to do right and be good is the soil in which wisdom takes root. One way to define wisdom is a set of worthy principles to live by. Who wouldn’t be down for that definition of wisdom?
It’s my hope that we can all become Wisdom Otaku!
I’ve had a lot of different experiences, and grew up with a lot of advantages as well as a number of series disadvantages. I’ve been helped and supported in many ways by many many people – both directly and indirectly. I like to believe I’ve found some peace, a lot of healing, and a way of life that I can live with. (Yes, I know what I said. And I said what I said.)
My goal has always been to find principles I can live by without regret and without causing harm. I don’t want this to sound noble either – I can’t take credit for being drawn to this stuff. Also, part of the allure in thinking through and living by principles is that it has always appeared to be the least stressful way to do things...
Anyway!
The principles that I currently attempt to live by are collected from the many people who have supported me, the experiences I’ve had, and the various things I’ve studied – from philosophy to religion to characters in anime and novels.
This blog is an expression of appreciation for the various works and people who have helped me find the principles hold dear. In case I somehow fooled you with the stock photos, this blog is very much a work in-progress. With your help and support, I hope to build this into something useful for all my fellow otaku.
Sometime in the near future I'll post something far less cryptic about who I am and you'll be able to read it at the link below. You'll also get to know me bit-by-bit by reading each post. (hint-hint)
Feel free to reach out with questions, comments, and/or suggestions!
I'll do my best to get back to you soon!
